The work to convert a disused retail store into an ultra-modern office premises required careful appraisal of the existing steelwork, timbers, and masonry.
It was envisaged that the removal of the existing staircases would create a glazed vertical void through the heart of the building, linking all three floors. In close consultation with the client and the Architect, the practice worked up proposals for the modification of the existing steelwork – and the addition of some new steel elements – allowing the clients to achieve their objectives. These structural details were designed with the utmost sensitivity to the architectural vision.
The result was a light, open and contemporary studio and office space designed to maximise the natural light whilst maintaining strong visual connections between the various departments within the design agency - with the property serving a showpiece for the talents and values of this high profile client.
